Greetings in
the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Methodist church of Rawatawatta,
a townlet in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka is 146 years old. The average Sunday
attendance, both young and old, is around 250.
There is continued interest in the
Sunday Sabbath school, Wesley Guild, Women’s Union, weekly Bible
studies, Praise & Worship services and cottage meetings. Its
social responsibility programmes include free medical checks and
medicine to about 50 aged persons, monthly financial grants to over
25 persons in abject poverty, daycare facilities to nearly 30 poorest
children and vocational training to a few under – privileged youth.
While the church thus marches forward,
the 146 years old church building is now in advanced stage of decay
and is beyond economical repeirs. The foundation is disintegrating;
the columns are crumbling; the walls are cracking and the façade
has begun separating from the main walls. Further use of it has
accompanying dangers and risks.
The total estimated cost of construction
of a new building is over US$ 150,000/- and the church members have
been able to rise US& 45,000/-.
This being an old and established church in a predominantly no-Christian
country where there is no state patronage or any other institutional
help for Christians, we commit this urgent need for your erstwhile
consideration. The building project will take about two years to
complete. Therefore, you may pledge your contribution first and
commute its payment in several installments. That will help us plan
our cash-flow.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the love of god and the fellowship of the Holy spirit be
with you and yours always.
