Rawatawatte Methodist Church- Moratuwa-SRILANKA
Now it is different and many storied buildings in the vicinity have dwarfed it. But for over a hundred years the spacious church always attracted attention and was a much loved sanctuary where people thronged to worship God. After 146 years we have found that the foundations are sinking, the walls are cracking and even the roof may collapse at any moment injuring the worshippers! The advice of the engineers who have thoroughly inspected it is; that the present edifice is pulled down and a new structure takes its place. This is why we are contemplating the building of a new church. For the glory of God, we in our generation have to put up a church which may stand for the next two to three hundred years, at least, and the new church should not be in anyway second to the present one.

As in the past even today; the RMC, serves the entire community and all the social services activities radiate from the Seva Sevena building. Activities of a beneficient nature are enthusiastically carried out. The church is geared to help the poorest of the poor.
  • A crèche is run for babies under three years of age, whose mothers seek a daily living. Three meals are supplied daily and much attention given to their hygienic and health needs. Members of the church supply the meals on a roster basis, but the demand exceeds the supply.
  • A pre-school is held and those who patronize are mainly the children of poor parents who cannot pay the exorbitant fees charged by similar institutions in the city.
  • Monthly health clinics are held by reputed doctors and specialists and even some medical tests are carried out absolutely free.
  • Special classes are held for school children who cannot pay for private tuition. English classes, music and dancing classes are also held for children coming from the lower income brackets.
  • Healing services, Bible studies and prayer-cells are conducted on a weekly basis, energizing the people’s spiritual lives.

If the RMC fails to do the services mentioned before; many people in the lower income groups will suffer immensely. All the more why all the people who have the heart for this kind of service should join hands with the members of our church, in re-building of this historic Methodist church by contributing generously to the church building fund.

In Moratuwa over 30% of the population is Christian and a strong Christian presence is felt in all activities of the city. The RMC in its own way has fulfilled a leading role to maintain this state of affairs and looks to the future with hope, to play a similar part in the coming years.
